The body of Robert James Moore, an American who had been obsessed with the Queen, was found earlier this year near the Buckinham Palace, reports the Herald Sun.

British authorities only revealed the discovery of Moore's remains by a gardener earlier this week. He saw a skeleton along with vodka bottles and a decaying pillow. He was found as long as three years after his death, reports the Herald Sun.

The man had sent hundreds of letters to Queen Elizabeth II. It is believed that it was his obsession with the royal family that caused him to camp out outside the London palace.

According to the Telegraph, it was after an inquest at Westminster Coroner's Court, that the details of Moore's life emerged. Moore had a history of mental and alcohol problems, reports The Sun

Writes the Telegraph

Mr Moore, who was in his late sixties when he died, was said to have sent hundreds of “strange and offensive” packages to the Queen over a period of 15 years, including obscene photographs. Some of the “peculiar” letters ran to 600 pages, and he had also posted a copy of his passport and boxes falsely warning that they contained dangerous substances.

It is thought that senior members of the Royal household would have been unaware of Mr Moore’s obsession, as their mail is screened and anything suspicious is sent to the Metropolitan Police.

Cause of death has not been determined.
