Yahoo CEO Marissa Mayer bans working from home

A new, leaked memo sheds some light on the Yahoo office culture. For one, it shows that employees won't be allowed to work from home anymore. More disturbing, it reveals that Yahoo employees are called "Yahoos."  Hi, I'm a Yahoo for Yahoo. Nice to meet you.

All Things D broke the news that Yahoo CEO Marissa Mayer has instituted the new anti-working remotely rules.  The move will impact several hundred employees, some of whom could be forced to relocate if they don't want to get fired. Some staffers told All Things D that they were hired with the assumption that their hours and location would be more flexible.

Luckily, Mayer has previously announced that food in Yahoo's Cafe in its Sunnyvale HQ will be free, CNET reported. That almost makes showing up to work worth it.

All Things D later published a memo detailing the policy. "Yahoos," begins the note, written by Yahoo chief of human resources Jackie Reses. She explains that people are more productive when they work side-by-side. "Beginning in June, we’re asking all employees with work-from-home arrangements to work in Yahoo! offices," Reses writes.

The note concludes: "Being a Yahoo isn’t just about your day-to-day job, it is about the interactions and experiences that are only possible in our offices." Fine! But there's nothing in there that says Yahoos have to put pants on before showing up to the office!
