A young woman was killed by a New York City subway car on New Year's Day not far from Times Square, reported AP, in an incident that occurred around 5:00 AM.
AP reports that the victim was in her 20s, and was killed on the tracks at the Number 2 line station, located at 34th Street and Seventh Avenue in New York City.

The New York Daily News reports that the woman appears to have walked down to the tracks then to have lain across them, and was almost immediately struck and killed by a northbound subway car. Foul play doesn't appear to be involved.
New York City's subway system has received negative publicity in December after two middle-aged men died on the tracks in separate incidents. Both of the men were pushed to their deaths, by suspects who have been taken into custody.
Erika Menendez, a suspect in the December pushing death of 46-year-old Indian Sunando Sen, had previously had authorities called on her by own family, after she refused to take prescribed psychiatric drugs, reported AP.
Prior to the death of Sen, Menendez had been arrested for violent attacks on others in the recent past.
