A teenage Tibetan girl, Wangchen Kyi, on Sunday became the eighth Tibetan youth to self-immolate in protest of Chinese dominion over ethnically Tibetan regions, rights groups said, according to The Washington Post

Kyi died in western Qinghai province on Sunday night after she making a statement of support for the Tibetan people, the US-based  International Campaign for Tibet said, reported PerthNow

There were conflicting reports as to her age, but it appeared to be either 16 or 17. 

Over 90 Tibetans have self-immolated in the past several years as a form of political protest over perceived Chinese suppression of their culture and values, said the Post

China says the rights of the Tibetan people are fully protected.
