Vera Wang, wedding designer to the stars, has split from her husband of 23 years, Arthur Becker.
The couple announced they were separating today, triggering tongue-in-cheek speculation about whether Wang’s 2012 Bridal Show, which featured black wedding dresses, was an omen.
"Vera Wang and Arthur Becker have mutually and amicably agreed to separate. They remain devoted parents to their two daughters," Wang's company president, Mario Grauso, said in a statement to fashion publication WWD.
The couple married at the Pierre Hotel in New York in 1989 and their daughters are Cecilia, 21, and Josephine, 18.
The renowned designer has created wedding dresses for a long list of celebrities including Kim Kardashian (three dresses), Chelsea Clinton and Brooklyn Decker, the Los Angeles Times reported.
According to the New York Daily News, Wang started out running an Upper East Side bridal show. The 63-year-old now oversees a multi-million dollar empire spanning fragrance, publishing, home products, luggage, shoes and, of course, beautiful gowns.
Becker, a former tech company chief executive, has been a close business adviser to Wang and has become more involved in the daily operations at Vera Wang in recent years, WWD reported.
He is said to have been a key driver of Wang’s move into lower-end fashion. The company apparently operates under Wang and Becker's two camps, WWD said.
