The unmanned drone that was reportedly shot down by Iran this week was flying on a mission for the Central Intelligence Agency, reported the Washington Post.

The Post cited unnamed American officials who said:

Iran’s military appears to be in possession of one of the more sensitive surveillance platforms in the CIA’s fleet, an aircraft that was shaped and designed to evade enemy defenses.

Spokesmen for the American spy agency and the Pentagon declined to comment to the Post.
