UN head says Syria violence has reached an “intolerable stage”

UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon said the Syrian government must stop its crackdown on its own people and make good on its promise for a cease fire.
He said President Bashar al-Assad's assault on protesters had reached an "intolerable stage," and that the UN would try to speed up the deployment of up to 300 monitors to Syria, the Guardian reported.
"The government of Syria must live up to its promises to the world," Ban told reporters on a visit to India.
Adding, he was "gravely alarmed" by the killings, according to the Associated Press.
A UN brokered cease-fire was meant to take effect two weeks ago but its been widely ignored by both sides.
Currently there are only 15 UN monitors on the ground but officials say they hope to have 25 by Monday and 100 by mid-May.
