A shooter who opened fire at Taft High School in Taft, California after reportedly wounding at least two people is in custody.
The shooting happened at around 9 a.m., and officials say the shooter was taken into custody at about 9:20 a.m., local news channel ABC23 and other sources reported.
The suspected shooter is reportedly a student at the high school in Southern California, and was using a shotgun in one of the classrooms, NPR News reported.
One of the injured was a student, and is currently being flown to a hospital in Bakersfield, Ray Pruitt, spokesman for the Kern County Sheriff's Department, told the Associated Press.
The other injured person is believed to be a teacher, according to NPR.
Pruitt did not release details on either of the victims' conditions.
The shooting comes as Vice President Joe Biden is meeting with the NRA and other gun groups to enact tougher laws and other methods to prevent the rising tide of gun violence in the US.
Students and staff were evacuated onto the school's football field, where parents are being told to pick up their children.
Kern County Sheriff's Department officials are currently securing the school room by room, USA Today reported, and three ambulances and a medevac helicopter have been sent to the school.
Taft is about two hours north of Los Angeles.
