An explosion in China's Yunnan province killed three people and injured 14 others on Thursday, according to the Chinese official news agency Xinhua.
Xinhua said that four who were severely injured were rushed to Kunming, the capital of Yunnan province, while the remaining 10 were sent to a local hospital.
The BBC reported that the explosion was caused by a woman who blew herself up in protest of the demolition of her house. The woman had reportedly been negotiating compensation for losing her home, according to eyewitnesses.

The woman died in the blast, when she detonated explosives that were attached to her body, according to AFP.
An official who refused to give his name told the AFP, "We have opened an investigation. I can't tell you anything, but three people were killed and 14 were injured."

The BBC said that local governments in China often demolish houses or take away land without offering adequate compensation.
AFP noted that such forced relocations and land grabs often lead to violent protests in China.
According to the BBC, China passed a law last year that would supposedly improve the rights of citizens, making forced evictions harder to carry out.
