Senator Scott Brown’s daughter insured under Obamacare

Senator Scott Brown, Republican of Massachusetts, is using the Affordable Care Act, also known as Obamacare, to insure his 23-year-old daughter, the Boston Globe reported

While campaigning against Democrat Martha Coakley in a special election to fill the seat of the late Senator Edward Kennedy, Brown promised to be the 41st vote against Obama's signature health care reform law.

After the bill passed, a provision that permits people ages 26 and under to remain on their parents' health plans has proven to be one of the most popular.

"Of course I do," Brown said to a reporter when asked if the Senator includes his daughter, Ayla, who is a professional singer, on his congressional plan. “I’ve already voted to repeal [Obamacare]. You know where I stand on this. This isn’t news.’’

Brown's opponent in the race for Massachusetts' open Senate seat, Democrat Elizabeth Warren, quickly pounced on the admission.

Alethea Harney, spokeswoman for Warren, said Brown "says he likes being able to keep his daughter on the family health insurance plan; what he doesn’t say is that he voted to stop other parents from doing the same."

At a campaign event on Tuesday, Warren used the news about Browns's daughter to suggest he was having it both ways.

"My Republican opponent, Scott Brown, campaigned against healthcare reform… We just learned today back in Massachusetts that he is using that same health care reform act to make sure that his adult daughter gets covered on his health insurance policy at the same moment that he wants to repeal it for everyone else. This is wrong," Warren said.

The two politicians are running neck and neck, according to recent polls on RealClearPolitics.
