Sandusky: I showered with young boys, but I’m not a pedophile

Penn State's former assistant football coach, Jerry Sandusky, admitted in an interview that he showered with young boys, but he insisted that he is not a pedophile.

"I have hugged them and I have touched their leg without intent of sexual contact," Sandusky told NBC's Bob Costas in an interview Monday, as reported by Reuters.

"I shouldn't have showered with those kids," he said. But he insisted: "I am not sexually attracted to young boys."

Sandusky has been accused of sexually assaulting eight boys over a 15-year span while he worked at Penn State as a coach and then while he ran a charity for disadvantaged youth. The scandal has rocked the university as well as state, and it has captured national headlines for days. After concerns of a coverup, the university's board of trustees fired football head coach Joe Paterno and the university president November 9.

On Monday, the charity that Sandusky ran, the Second Mile charity, accepted the resignation of its chief executive, Jack Raykovitz, and opened an internal investigation into the case.

"I hope that my resignation brings with it the beginning of that restoration of faith in the community of volunteers and staff that, along with the children and families we serve, are the Second Mile,” said Raykovitz in a statement on the Second Mile’s homepage.

Sandusky and his attorney said in a telephone interview Monday that he is innocent of all charges filed against him.

"I am innocent of those charges," Sandusky told Costas.
