Possibly armed and “suicidal” FBI agent Stephen Ivens still missing in southern California

The search for missing FBI Special Agent Stephen Ivens, 35, continued in Los Angeles County on Sunday.

Associated Press says that about 100 FBI agents, 40 rescuers from the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department and a dozen police officers from Burbank participated in the search.

Dogs have reportedly tracked Ivens' scent toward the Verdugo Mountains, east of Burbank, but searchers were spread throughout Los Angeles County.

It is the largest search in the city in 20 years, Burbank police Capt. Denis Cremins is reported as saying by 89.3 KPCC.

Ivens was last seen by his family on Thursday night and was reported missing on Friday, according to the LA Times. Officials described Ivens as suicidal and added that his handgun was also missing.  However, they insisted they do not believe Ivens is a danger to anyone but himself.

The local Daily News says that Ivens had worked with the FBI's national security department for three years, was well-liked by FBI colleagues and had no history of disciplinary action on the job.  He previously worked with the LAPD for eight years and is married with a one-year-old child.
