Police in New York began clearing Occupy Wall Street protesters from Zuccotti Park, and dismantling tents, before dawn on Tuesday.
A New York City police officer scuffles with Occupy Wall Street protesters after they were evicted from Succotti Park on November 15, 2011 in New York.
Activists at the two-month-old camp were told the park would be “cleared and restored” before sunrise – and that anyone who did not comply would be arrested, the New York Times reported. In a Twitter post, the office of Mayor Michael Bloomberg said the protesters could return to the park once it was cleared of tents and tarpaulins.
