Lawyers: Colo. shooting suspect James Holmes is mentally ill

Attorneys for James Holmes, the suspect in the Colorado movie theater shootings, said he is mentally ill and that they need more time to determine the illness.

James Holmes' lawyers made the disclosure at a court hearing in suburban Denver on Thursday, according to the Associated Press.

Holmes, who appeared in court, looked dazed as he has on previous occasions, the AP reported.

NBC reported Holmes is accused of 24 counts of first-degree murder for the July 20 shooting during a midnight premiere of the Batman movie "The Dark Knight Rises" in Aurora.
