John Atterberry, a Hollywood music executive shot three times in the face and neck by a gunman in a random attack near Sunset Boulevard on Friday, has reportedly died.

Atterberry was driving a silver Mercedes-Benz coupe when he was hit by the gunman, later identified by authorities as Tyler Brehm, 26.

Brehm was walking down the middle of Sunset Boulevard when he began firing a .40-caliber handgun at motorists on Friday at the corner of Sunset and Vine, the LA Times reported, citing the LAPD. He managed to shoot around 20 rounds, reportedly injuring three people.

However, two police officers and an off-duty motorcycle officer working movie set security and a detective intervened, with one of them shooting the Brehm to death after he pointed his weapon at them, HuffPost Los Angeles reported.

Brehm, who according to ex-girlfriend, Alicia Alligood, in an interview with KTLA-TV Channel 5 seemed "stressed out" after their breakup.

Atterberry, a music and real estate executive, was at one time vice president of Death Row Records, which represented Tupac Shakur, Dr. Dre and Snoop Dog and other big West Coast hip-hop acts.

He later founded Los Angeles-based music publishing company Infusion Music Group, where he worked on albums for Christina Aguilera, Michael Jackson, Brandy, the Spice Girls and Jessica Simpson.

He died at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center shortly before 5 p.m. Monday, spokeswoman Simi Singer told the .
