Japan Airlines-owned Boeing Dreamliner forced to cancel takeoff due to fuel leak at Boston airport

A Boeing 787 Dreamliner operated by Japan Airlines was forced to cancel its take-off from Boston’s international airport today due to a fuel leak, in the second incident involving the new jet in as many days.

Another Dreamliner, also owned by Japan Airlines, experienced an electrical fire on Monday at the same airport, Reuters reported.

The BBC reported that the Tokyo-bound aircraft had left the gate and was preparing to take off when about 40 gallons of spilled fuel was discovered.

The plane with 178 passengers on board returned to the gate and passengers disembarked safely, the Wall Street Journal reported.

“Massport crews are on the airfield containing a fuel leak from an outbound Japan Airlines flight to Tokyo. The venting of fuel has stopped. The flight will return to the gate and be evaluated further at that time,” Boston Logan International Airport said on its Facebook page.

The state-of the-art aircraft has been plagued by problems, from lengthy production delays to embarrassing malfunctions.
