Insider attack kills 6 police in Afghanistan: officials

Afghan officials said an insider attack in the country's volatile Helmand province early today killed six Afghan policeman, reported Reuters.

Taliban spokesman Qari Yousuf Ahmadi claimed responsibility for the attack, telling Reuters the group sent a "mujahid who had infiltrated and penetrated the police ranks."
Provincial police spokesman Farid Ahmad Farhangi told The LA Times that an officer and cook killed two policemen in Helmand's Gereskh area, adding that the cook escaped.
There were differing accounts as to how the other four were killed, said The LA Times, but reports suggest the two were assisted by other insurgents after the initial two policemen were killed.
Over 50 NATO troops have been killed in insider attacks this year, according to the LA Times, raising concerns for security ahead of the international troop pullout, which is set for 2014.
