Maduro did not give details about the complications, but said they came amid a respiratory infection, according to the Associated Press. The vice-president had arrived in Havana on Saturday in an unexpected trip to visit the president. He said Sunday that he would remain in the Cuban capital "for the coming hours" but didn't specify how long.

During the address, he appeared solemn and spoke alongside Chavez's oldest daughter, Rosa, and son-in-law Jorge Arreaza, as well as Attorney General Cilia Flores.

"The state of health of President Chavez continues to be delicate (and has) presented complications that are being treated in a process not without risk," Maduro said, noted BBC.
