GlobalPost’s video series “On Location” wins 2011 Peabody Award

GlobalPost has been honored as the recipient of a 2011 George Foster Peabody Award for its “On Location” video series. The oldest award for electronic media, the Peabody recognizes “distinguished achievement and meritorious service by broadcasters, cable and Webcasters.”  

This year's thirty-eight winners, chosen by the Peabody board as the best in electronic media for the year 2011, were named in a ceremony in the Peabody Gallery on the University of Georgia Campus. In announcing GlobalPost's award, the Peabody Board praised "On Location" for focusing, "on news and events neglected or ignored by other media outlets."

In 2011, GlobalPost published 75 “On Location” videos reported from 34 different countries. Of those 75 reports, 9 videos were submitted as examples of what the series does each week: engage the audience with distinctive reporting on the economy, politics and culture in places most people will never visit. The videos considered by the Peabody Board are below:
