Gabby Giffords’ gun control TV ad: “Let’s Get This Done”

Wounded ex-Congresswoman Gabby Giffords has lent her voice to a new TV ad promoting gun control legislation.

Americans for Responsible Solutions, a super PAC formed by Giffords and her husband Mark Kelly two years after she was shot in the head in a mass shooting in Arizona, produced the ad, reports NBC News.

It features black and white images of the devastating shooting massacres that have crushed the nation — Aurora, Colo., Tucson, Ariz., Oak Creek, Wis., and Newtown, Conn.

"We have a problem — where we shop, where we pray, where our children go to school," Giffords says in the ad.

"But there are solutions we can agree on, even gun owners like us. Take it from me: Congress must act. Let's get this done."

Giffords still struggles to speak in full sentences after the 2011 shooting that left her partially paralyzed.

The ad will run in Washington DC and other media markets reaching the constituents of Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.), Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.), House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) and House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.), reports POLITICO.

The 30-second ad debuted the day before President Obama is expected to address gun control in his fifth State of the Union address on Tuesday night.

According to CNN, Giffords and Kelly will attend the address as guests of Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) and Rep. Ron Barber, who replaced her in the House and was also injured in the Tuscon rampage, reports CNN.

"We'll be listening to what the President has to say and are standing ready to support commonsense legislation in Congress to reduce gun violence," she wrote in a Facebook post for a gun violence prevention group Saturday afternoon.
