Facebook campaign to “prove innocence” of nanny Yoselyn Ortega accused of killing Krim children

NEW YORK — A Facebook page has been set up, claiming nanny Yoselyn Ortega is innocent and did not murder Lucia and Leo Krim.

The "Support Innocence of Nanny Yoselyn Ortega", which claims to be run by family, friends and supporters, says it is pleading for any information "that could help prove her innocence and bring the real killer or killers" to justice. 

But since the campaign was launched on October 29, four days after the tragedy, it has sparked a massive wave of emotional postings, Radar Online reported. 

Among them are postings from those who think Ortega should "rot in hell" or "be put to death", and others calling for the photos of the Krim children on the page to be removed.

Others believe the Dominican Republic-born nanny is innocent and suggest "theories" on what really happened, including that Kevin Krim was having an affair with Yoselyn, and his wife, Marina, found out about it and sought revenge.

Some mocked such an incredulous theory, while one woman replied: "So the blame is being shifted from the nanny/murderer to the victim/mother who lost 2 of her children to a woman who clearly lost her mind? Gimme a freakin break!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

Following the backlash, the group posted a message overnight, stating: "We are receiving a lot of backlash from people (lynch mob) that automatically feel that they are judge and jury and executioner and state that Yoselyn is guilty.

"We are made of up family, friends and just common Americans currently 15 people that believe she did not do this crime and she deserves to have her day in court to defend against the charges to prove her case in a not guilty verdict."

Ortega, 50, was charged last Saturday with killing Lucia Krim, 6, and her brother, Leo, 2, in their luxury New York apartment. 

The New York Times reported Ortega has admitted to police harming the children but has not confessed to the killings. She remains in hospital while the Krim family have gone into seclusion following the funeral on Monday for their two little children.

As of today, the site had only received 18 "likes", but plenty of emotional postings.

The Daily Mail said a rival page "Shut Up RaqHell She Is Delusional" has been launched, expressing disgust that anyone could campaign for the alleged killer's innocence.
