A doctor was shot and killed in his office by his patient, the Orange County Register reported. Dr. Ronald Ranklin Gilbert, a physician at Orange County Urology, was 52.

The suspect is a 75-year-old retired barber named Stanwood Fred Elkus who has been arrested, the Associated Press reported

Police said they found the suspect and the doctor's body in a second-floor room after several 911 callers reported hearing about six shots, the AP said

"I sit right at the front desk. I would have caught the first bullet," Becky Calderwood, who works two doors down from the office, told the Los Angeles Times. "This is nuts. People are just shooting everyone all the time."
