Clinton sends supportive message to Yulia Tymoshenko

Outgoing US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton has sent a message of support to Ukraine's ex-prime minister, who is in prison. Ukrainian ex-prime minister Yulia Tymoshenko is serving a seven-year sentence for abuse of office and is now facing new charges, including accusations of murder. But critics say that the case wreaks of selective justice, Reuters reported.

Clinton seems to agree. In her letter to Tymoshenko, obtained by Reuters, Clinton writes:"I … want to reaffirm that the United States supports your immediate release. I hope the New year brings new prospects for your release and wish you a return to good health."

Tymoshenko has been accused of ordering the contract-style killing of four people, including a lawmaker, and is also awaiting trial for tax evasion. Tymoshenko, 52, denies the charges. She says they are part of a campaign by President Viktor Yanukovich to keep her behind bars.

If found guilty of these new charges, she could remain in jail for life, RT reported
