China: Teenager kills 9 people, injures 4 after fight with his girlfriend

A teenager in northeast China stabbed to death nine people and wounded four others after a fight with his girlfriend.
The incident happened Wednesday night in Yongling, a town in Liaoning province, the BBC reported.
The 17-year-old, whose has been identified by his surname Li, killed two relatives of his girlfriend after the couple had a falling out, the Agence France-Presse reported.
He killed another six people and injured five as he attempted to flee.
One of the injured died in hospital earlier today, AFP said.
The Associated Press said the suspect, believed to be from nearby Fushun city, had been caught.
Police detained him as he was preparing to jump from a building in an apparent suicide attempt, AFP said, citing the official Xinhua news agency.
Police are investigating the murders. The wounded are receiving medical treatment, the state-run Global Times said.
Violent crime has been increasing in China in recent years as the gap between the rich and poor widens.
Many people have been left behind by the country’s booming economic growth over the past three decades, while mental disorders have been rising as social pressures increase.
