Chile: 6.7 magnitude earthquake hits Valparaiso (VIDEO)

The coast of Chile was struck with a 6.7 magnitude earthquake on Monday, causing minor damage and mudslides in the port city of Valparaiso. According to CNN, the earthquake knocked out some power and phone lines, and it was felt all the way in Santiago, which is 69 miles away from the epicenter.

An elderly man died of a heart attack brought on by the earthquake, according to Reuters, but no other injuries were reported.

The Chilean navy's hydrographic and oceanographic service said there is no possibility of a tsunami, reported the Associated Press, but authorities still had people move to higher ground along 500 miles of coastline — from the city of Constitucion to Tongoy — as a precaution.

Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper and his wife Laureen — who were in Santiago after attending the Summit of the Americas in Colombia — were awakened by the earthquake, according to The Globe and Mail.

"The Prime Minister and his wife were at the hotel when the earthquake happened," said Andrew MacDougall, Harper's director of communications, to the Globe. "All members of the Canadian delegation, including the prime minister, and his wife, Laureen, are just fine."

Conservative Member of Parliament Randy Hoback also wrote about the earthquake through his Twitter account, saying, "With PM in Chile. Just experienced Earthquake. Everything A ok! Just freaky!"
