Chevrolet refund: General Motors offers new buyers of Chevy brands their money back

Not satisfied with your brand-new Chevy? Take it back to the dealer and get a full refund.

General Motors, which owns the Chevrolet brand, has launched a “Love It or Return It” offer on any 2012 and 2013 model year Chevy.

Customers are eligible for a full refund within 31 and 60 days of buying the vehicle, so long as it has fewer than 4,000 miles on the clock and no dents or scratches, the Los Angeles Times reported.

The marketing strategy is aimed at clearing GM's Chevrolet inventory to make way for a new model year and boosting sales.

According to Automotive News, Chevrolet’s market share has slipped this year. Sales rose six percent in the first half of the year in a market that grew by 15 percent.

Chevrolet marketing vice president Chris Perry said the refund guarantee would ease drivers' concerns about buying a new vehicle.

"Our research shows consumers are reassured of the quality of a product and like the peace of mind that comes with knowing they have the option of being able to return their vehicle," Perry said.

According to Advertising Age, Perry and GM global chief marketing officer Joel Ewanick used a similar marketing scheme when they worked for Hyundai.

During a severe recession in 2009, Hyundai allowed customers who had lost their jobs to return their recently purchased vehicle and get a near-full refund.
