Baghdad bomb attacks leave 11 dead

At least 11 people have been killed in two bomb attacks in Iraq’s capital city, Baghdad.
According to the BBC, the first bomb went off Wednesday outside a home in Wahdad, a district in the south-east of the city. Nobody was injured, but eight people gathered at the scene to help were killed when a second bomb exploded.
A second bomb attack on the house of a government-backed militia member left the man’s wife and two of his daughters dead, and wounded three others, police told Reuters news agency.

According to CNN, nearly 180 people have been killed this month since Sunni militant groups – including Al Qaeda’s local affiliate, the Islamic State of Iraq – launched a series of bombing attacks on Shia Muslims in a bid to undermine the government of Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki and trigger further sectarian fighting in the country.
