Several attacks in Iraq today killed eight police and soldiers, reported The Associated Press.
Two Baghdad neighborhoods were targeted by gunmen using silencer-equipped weapons in attacks that killed five security officials, said AP.

An additional three soldiers died after their patrol hit two improvised explosive devices today near Fallujah, a city some 40 miles west of Baghdad, reported Agence-France Press, citing local officials.
AP said health officials have confirmed the eight fatalities.
Violence in Iraq has been on the rise in recent months, with some 200 people killed in August, according to AP.
