Badakhshan province governor spokesman Abdul Maroof Rasikh provided no further details about the five aid workers other than they were riding on horseback from the remote Yaftal and Ragh districts to the provincial capital of Faizabad at the time of the attack, said the Associated Press

Local police told Reuters an investigation is under way, while NATO officials said they had no information about the incident.

The kidnapping of foreigners is not uncommon in Afghanistan.
