9 killed in bus crash on Interstate 84 in Oregon

Nine people were killed and another 20 were injured after a tour bus crashed on an icy stretch of highway in Oregon this morning, the Associated Press reported.

About 40 people were on board the charter bus when it lost control on the ice and snow-covered Interstate 84 in eastern Oregon.

The bus skidded off the highway and plunged down an embankment of about 200 feet, Reuters reported.

Initial reports put the death toll at five, but the AP reported this evening that authorities said it had risen to nine.

The crash happened near Pendleton in northeast Oregon near the border with Washington state.
