Washington Post says website hacked by Syrian Electronic Army

The Washington Post said Thursday that its website had been compromised by the Syrian Electronic Army. 

The hackers reportedly got in through Outbrain, a third-party service that puts up "sponsored links" boxes on the Post's website, the Post explained.

The SEA, a hacker group loyal to Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, also tweeted the deed: 

As of this writing, content on CNN.com and TIME.com does not appear to be linking to SEA websites like some of the Post's content. 

The Post's technicians have identified Outbrain is the source of the problem, and the provider tweeted on Thursday that its services are currently down due to an unspecified attack:

The SEA reportedly told Hacker News that they have access to Outbrain's email inbox.
