Texas Governor calls 2nd special session of Legislature to address abortion restrictions

Texas Gov. Rick Perry has called a second special session of the Legislature to pass abortion restrictions.

Davis, a single mother by the age of 19, spoke for more than 10 hours to block the measure, which would ban abortion after 20 weeks of pregnancy and force many abortion clinics in Texas, America's second most-populous state, to shut down.

However political sources predicted on Wednesday that anti-abortion Governor Rick Perry would quickly revive the proposal.

However, the Associated Press reported late Wednesday that Perry had "ordered lawmakers to meet again on July 1 to act on the abortion proposals."

The news service cited Lt. Gov. David Dewhurst as "hinting" at another special session after calling the protesters against the bill who attended Senate proceedings during Davis' filibuster as an "unruly mob."

Reuters also cited "political sources" as saying Wednesday that Gov. Perry would quickly revive the proposal.

Perry is within his rights to call as many 30-day extra sessions as he chooses.
