A doctor accused of performing illegal late-term abortions in Philadelphia was found guilty Monday of first-degree murder.

The jury, who had been deliberating for 10 days, declared Dr Kermit Gosnell guilty of murder in the death of three babies born alive, WPVI reported.

The 72-year-old was acquitted of the death of a fourth baby, but was also found guilty of involuntary manslaughter in the death of a patient who died of an overdose, AP reported.

Earlier Monday, the jurors told the judge they were split on two of the more than 260 charges against the doctor, ABC News reported.Th

They did not indicate the offenses.

According to the Delaware News Journal, the weary-looking jury indicated they were hung at 11.15 a.m. but Common Pleas Judge Jeffrey Minehart asked them to go back and look at the evidence and his directions. He urged the panel to try to reach a unanimous verdict.

They returned a few hours later, having reached a verdict.

Gosnell operated the Women's Medical Society for more than three decades until the FBI shut it down after a 2010 raid, Fox News reported.

He was also charged with racketeering, as well as allegations he performed illegal, third-trimester abortions.

Gosnell could face the death penalty.
