Pakistan bus bombing kills 8

Police say at least eight people are dead after a bomb planted in a passenger bus in northwestern Pakistan went off on Saturday.
Police official Fazal Wahid Khan told the Associated Press another seven people were also wounded in the blast just outside of Peshawar, where the bus had left to travel to a nearby town.

No one immediately claimed responsibility.
The explosion occurred as the bus, which had 20 passengers, passed through a market in the suburb of Mattani Saturday afternoon. Police said a woman was among those killed instantly.
Local TV footage showed the remains of the bus as a heap of metal. The blast also damaged several shops in the area and closed down the market.
Pakistan security forces have carried out numerous offensives against the Taliban and other militant groups in Peshawar, which is the capital of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province and borders Afghanistan.
