Ultra-nationalists gathered for a torch-lit procession in Kyiv on Tuesday night. Their aim was apparently to walk to Independence Square in Ukraine's capital to commemorate the "heroes of the Maidan."
They were met by the Maidan's self-defense groups and scuffles broke out, according to Agence France Presse.
Radio Ekho Moskvy said the confrontation took place in the center of Kyiv between two armed groups. Around 200 people took part, and some injuries were reported.
Ukrainian news agency UNIAN reported that witnesses heard shots and explosions during the skirmish.
According to Ekho Moskvy, the ultra-nationalists' march was to demand that order be restored in the eastern parts of Ukraine.
Reports said no one was arrested.
