A manhunt is underway in Northern California by Calaveras County sherrifs deputies, after a nine-year-old girl was found stabbed to death in her Valley Springs home Saturday, apparently the victim of an intruder.
The girl’s 12-year-old brother saw the intruder inside the family home, reports CBS Local, while neighbors saw the man — described as over 6 feet tall and either white or Hispanic – running away from the scene.

Local news source The Pine Tree added that the wanted man is reported to have longish gray hair, is said to be wearing a black long-sleeved shirt and blue pants, and is considered to be armed and dangerous — and area residents are being advised to lock their doors and report all suspicious activity.
The Calaveras County sheriff’s office wouldn’t release more details on the slaying of the young girl, notes KTVU, which added that the girl was pronounced dead at the hospital after her brother discovered she’d been fatally wounded.
“She was suffering from some severe injuries,” said Cpt. Jim Macedo to CBS of the incident.
KCRA News adds that area residents are advised to phone 911 if they see anything suspicious, as the large-scale manhunt for the perpetrator continues into Sunday.
