‘Dry ice bomb’ temporarily shuts down LAX

Four flights were delayed at Los Angeles International Airport on Sunday night, after a dry ice bomb exploded in Terminal 2 of the busy travel hub.

The explosion was reported around 7:00 p.m. at Terminal 2, where many international flights depart from, according to the Los Angeles Times.

After the bomb was discovered, the terminal was quickly shut down and stayed shuttered until 8:45 p.m., delaying four flights as the Los Angeles Bomb Squad investigated the scene. 

No injuries were reported and no arrests have been made thus far, as the FBI continues an investigation into the provenance of the explosion and the motive behind it, according to the Associated Press. The bathroom was located in an area of the terminal that is restricted to the public. 

"A chemical reaction caused the explosion. No injuries were reported and the area is being examined for evidence," said FBI spokeswoman Laura Eimiller in a written statement, according to NBC Los Angeles.

 "As a precaution, the terminal was closed temporarily, however, has since been reopened. The FBI and partners with LAPD, LAX PD, LA Fire, CBP, TSA and other officials will investigate the incident to determine the individual or group responsible," she added. 

This isn't the first security scare at LAX in recent months: on Sept. 10, a former TSA worker was arrested after making threats against the airport following his resignation.
