A car bomb attack in Somalia's Mogadishu on Saturday killed at least two and wounded several others on Saturday, according to BBC News.
"A suicide car bomb targeted a building housing Turkish embassy workers near K4 [Kilometer Four]," Ahmed Mohamud, a local police officer at the site of explosion, told Reuters.
A Turkish security worker was killed, according to CNN, while The Associated Press said the bomber also died. However, Mohamud told Reuters three people were dead. The conflicting causualty counts could not be immediately explained.
Witnesses told the BBC a car exploded as it hit the gates of the housing unit. A spokesman for the Turkish foreign ministry said bombers targeted a housing unit attached to the embassy, and Turkish authorities are said to be closely watching developments, according to CNN.
The AP, citing Al Shabab's Twitter account, said militants had taken responsibility for the strike and claimed to be targeting a group of Turkish diplomats.
The group's Twitter account has been suspended in the past but is now said to be back online; The group claimed later Saturday that as many as six people were dead, but this could not be independently confirmed. Here's the tweet:
Somali and African forces ousted Al Shabab from the capital during a military offensive two years ago, but the Islamic militant force still controls part of the country.
