A boy was killed in a July Fourth parade on Thursday in Edmond, Oklahoma, according to CNN

The boy somehow fell or jumped out of the martial-arts-decorated float and was run over by the trailer, said CNN

CBS said he was eight years old, but his name has not been released. Local police spokeswoman Jennifer Monroe told CNN the child was later declared dead at the hospital.

Edmond Police Officer James Hamm told the Associated Press the incident took place during the LibertyFest event in Edmond, which is in central Oklahoma.

"The driver, obviously unknowing what was going on, drove forward and ran over the child," Hamm told the AP, describing the incident as "a freak, unfortunate accident."

No other information was immediately available.
