Boston bombing suspects’ sister, Bella Tsarnaeva, faces pot charge (VIDEO)

The sister of the Boston bombing suspects is in a bit of trouble of her own.

Bella Tsarnaeva pleaded not guilty Tuesday to possession of marijuana with intent to distribute in a Superior Court courtroom in Hackensack, New Jersey.

She was arrested in December 2012 after police responded to a domestic violence report at her home in Fairview and found marijuana, according to court documents.

Both Tsarnaeva and her live-in boyfriend, Ahmad Khalil, were indicted in April on the pot charges.

Khalil also pleaded not guilty on Tuesday.

He was photographed leading Tsarnaeva, covered in his shirt, away from court after their arraignment hearing.

Tsarnaeva’s attorney, Mario Blanch, told The Record newspaper he had applied for her to a program that would enable her to avoid a criminal record.

 “She is a young woman, 24 years old, and through no fault of her own, she has been thrust into a public spotlight,” Blanch said. “This has been a huge tragedy for this country, and it has also been a huge tragedy for my client.”

Her brothers, Tamerlan and Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, are accused of detonating two explosives near the finish line at the Boston Marathon on April 15, killing three people and injuring hundreds.
