Body of Tamerlan Tsarnaev has been buried outside of Boston

The body of Boston Marathon bombing suspect Tamerlan Tsarnaev has been buried somewhere outside of the city, according to Worcester police, ending a running debate over who would come forward to claim his body. 

“As a result of our public appeal for help, a courageous and compassionate individual came forward to provide the assistance needed to properly bury the deceased,” Worcester police Sgt. Kerry Hazelhurst told the Boston Herald. “The body is no longer in the city of Worcester and is now entombed.”

Tsarnaev's body had been kept at the Graham Putnam & ­Mahoney Funeral Parlors since last Friday, according to the Boston Globe, as no family members had come forward to claim it.

The body was removed from the funeral home late on Wednesday, ending a debate over where it would be buried — multiple area cemeteries had refused to accept it, including those located in the suspect's hometown of Cambridge, Massachusetts. 

According to the Associated Press, Tsarnaev's uncle, Ruslan Tsarni, had custody of the body. 

Earlier in the week, Worcester police chief Gary Gemme had begged someone in the community to accept the body and end the stalemate.

“There is a need to do the right thing," said Gemme, according to NBC News. "We are not barbarians. We bury the dead.”

The location of the body remains unknown.
