Arrests made in Pakistan Christian neighborhood attack (VIDEO)

Police have arrested around 150 men a day after a mob set fire to homes in a Christian neighborhood in Pakistan.

The Christian neighborhood of Joseph Colony in Lahore was attacked on Saturday after a Christian sanitation worker allegedly made offensive comments about the Prophet Mohammed.

Several thousand people armed with batons and pistols set fire homes and churches on Saturday morning, The Associated Press reported.

No one was killed in the attack. Most of the Christian families had fled the area.

Several police officers were hurt as they tried to intervene. An estimated 178 houses, 18 shops and two churches were damaged by the fires, according to The New York Times.

Government officials pledged to help residents rebuild their homes, and offered $2,000 compensation to each affected family, the AP reported.

That didn't stop Christians from demonstrating in cities around Pakistan today, demanding better protection and reforms in the contoversial blasphemy laws, according to Agence France-Presse.

"What have we done? We could have been held responsible if we had done anything. This is cruel," Jani Masih, whose home was among those torched, told the AP.

Christians make up about 1.6 percent of Pakistan's mainly Muslim population, according to BBC News.
