Yesterday we covered the launch of the new “No Labels” movement, which endeavors to leave partisan labels behind in search of common ground in the middle. Is it possible to fulfill the goals of “No Labels,” and actually move forward on certain policy points? You had a lot to say on the subject online.
Steve from Texas had this to say:
Sounds like 1984 redux. The so-called “middle” of politicians in government still believe they know best. Let’s do away with names and call each other by a number or Twitter id. That is a no label world too. If you have a strong belief – this movement is not for you! What this movement wants is sheep – not people.
And Alice emailed us her take:
Imagine taking labels out of the ballot box. Imagine citizens going to vote and seeing the names and offices but no party labels. Voters would then have to minimally know the names of the candidates they intended to vote for, and hopefully more. Imagine further that all the news media put the focus solely on a politician’s statements and actions, without even naming her/his party. That too would help voters focus on messages instead of parties. Just imagine.
