For 22 years, singer and guitarist Sharon Katz has been at the forefront of a musical peace movement in South Africa. Since she was a teenager growing up in Port Elizabeth during apartheid, Sharon has been actively working against racial segregation and to heal cultural conflict through music. In 1992, just after Nelson Mandela was released from prison, Sharon founded a 500-member multicultural children’s choir that toured South Africa by train along with Sharon’s band and Ladysmith Black Mambazo.
The following decades included more amazing efforts, including recording with Sting, touring the world, and creating new music and projects every day.
On April 26, Sharon Katz and the Peace Train will return to Joe’s Pub in Manhattan, celebrating 20 years of hard work and great music. Sharon Katz will be joined by special guests SAHAVO (South Africa Harlem Voices) and the show will open with singer/songwriter Kierstin Gray.
