It’s been a little while since we’ve heard new music from our favorite politically-charged Chilean MC, so it’s definitely nice to have Ana Tijoux back on the mic. “Vengo,” the title track off her new album (to be released on March 18th by Nacional Records), is a enjoyably golden slice of classically minded boom-bap. The snares hit like 1997, while the melodic horns fluctuate between mountain flutes and blacksploitation-via-Kanye bombast. Tijoux rides the whole thing with her characteristic flow, somehow splitting the difference between in your face kiss-off and breathy intimacy. The beat repeats enough to really groove, while developing too quickly to ever get boring.
