As part of The Takeaway's series "Young Nation Under God?," The Takeaway will host a live online chat on Friday from 2 to 3 p.m. ET.
The chat will focus on the changing role religion plays in American society, particularly for the millennial generation — those ages 18-30. According to the Pew Forum on Religion & Public Life, more than one-quarter of American adults — about 28 percent — have left the faith in which they were raised in favor of another religion, or no religion at all. A quarter of millennials say they are not affiliated with any particular religion.
How has your religious identity changed? Does faith still play an important role in your life? Are you concerned that young people are leaving religious institutions?
The live chat will be moderated by Takeaway host John Hockenberry. Lisa Pearce, a professor of sociology at the University of North Carolina, will add her expertise as well.
