Francisco Nuñez is a Pentecostal pastor in Zongozotla, a small town in the highlands of Puebla state, Mexico.
"We are dedicated to enriching people with the Bible and God's word. We are always changing our message, enlivening people with God's word. At the Catholic church, the priest is confined and must follow the Vatican's message. They cannot change their message. . People realize that they need more from their church—variety—and so you see people leaving the Catholic church little by little.
I've been preaching here for 29 years, ever since we founded this church. But I'm also a coffee worker. I plant, cut and clean the coffee, and work with my community every day. I was born Catholic, but I converted at age eight, when my father converted. My father was a coffee farmer and would sometimes sleep at the church so that he would not have to travel so much to work. Once, at midnight, the church bells rang and my father saw demons. He converted then and I followed him."
Do you support journalism that strengthens our democracy?

At The World, we believe strongly that human-centered journalism is at the heart of an informed public and a strong democracy. We see democracy and journalism as two sides of the same coin. If you care about one, it is imperative to care about the other.

Every day, our nonprofit newsroom seeks to inform and empower listeners and hold the powerful accountable. Neither would be possible without the support of listeners like you. If you believe in our work, will you give today? We need your help now more than ever! Every gift will be matched 2:1, so your impact will go even further.
