Many young Americans can’t find jobs, but what’s often left out of the unemployment conversation is that young Americans are having as tough a time in the job market as older ones. Once they lose their jobs, Americans over 55 are less likely to find another job. And when they do, it almost definitely  won’t pay as well.
Since she can’t find a full-time job, 68-year old  Sue Barber has resorted to freelance writing as her primary source of income. Motoko Rich, economics reporter for our partner, The New York Times, explains how Sue’s problems are part of broader issues facing older workers.
