Perhaps more than any other news source, hunkered down residents of New York were turning to Twitter. The problem? A lot of it was fake.
Shashank Tripathi, campaign manager for Republican congressional candidate Christopher Wright, was perhaps the worst offender. He sent this tweet (and others) at the height of the city’s confusion: “BREAKING: Confirmed flooding on NYSE. The trading floor is flooded under more than 3 feet of water.”
New York City Council Member Peter Vallone, Jr. wants Tripathi to be charged with a criminal offense.
