Car formerly owned by Barack Obama listed on eBay for $1 million

The Takeaway

President Barack Obama’s car is for sale.

No, we’re not talking about the armored limousine he cruises around Washington, D.C., in. Even if the budget is tight, the U.S. government hasn’t stooped that low. In fact, the car in question isn’t even a recent model.

This car is a 2005 Chrysler 300C that Obama used to drive around when he was back in Chicago while still just the junior U.S. senator from Illinois. And the current owner is trying to sell it on eBay.

The asking price? $1,000,000.

Ryan Porter, who writes for Celebrity Cars Blog, said the history the car has with Obama is nice, but it doesn’t make it worth $1 million. According to Kelly Blue Book, a 300C with all of the options, in excellent condition with low-mileage, would be worth little more than $15,000.

“When it comes to the Blue Book, it should add nothing. In a great world, maybe double the price,” Porter said.

But the car was popular, and not just with politicians in the mid 2000s.

“It’s not a Bentley, but for the time when he owned it, this was a really popular car,” Porter said. “The funny thing is, this car was made very popular in music videos. It was a hot car for athletes to have. It’s a good-looking car. But people did compare it to Bentleys.”

The car was listed on eBay shortly after Obama’s inauguration and was bid up to $100 million by fake bidders, Porter said.

“This has happened too many times,” Porter said. “Things go on eBay, and next thing you know fake bids are coming in left and right.”

While bids can go up, there’s no reason to think they’d legitimately reach $1 million, let alone $100 million, Porter said.

There are no bids on the car at this time.
